Frequently asked questions

No—ADHD is a neurotype, not a disorder, and cannot be cured. When treating ADHD, the focus is on helping an individual create accommodations that work with the natural processes of their brain. Treatment may also involve helping them see the positive aspects of their neurotype, such as limitless curiosity, creativity, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

Medication, such as Adderall or Ritalin, can help with things like an inability to concentrate or hyperactivity.

ADHD diagnosis begins with a diagnostic interview. During this interview, your medical professional will help you complete a standardized ADHD symptom assessment. They’ll then compare your results to the DSM-5 criteria for ADHD. If you exhibit 5 or more characteristics, you’ll likely receive a diagnosis of ADHD.

ADHD isn’t a disease or illness—it’s a neurotype. That means people with ADHD are born with their brains wired a certain way. Adults diagnosed with ADHD also had it as children but likely experienced subtler, internal ADHD symptoms rather than more obvious external ADHD symptoms that would have indicated testing was needed.
